True, but I really think sites like Ripoff Report do a great public service in most cases. The founder seems like he is really concerned with consumer rights more than anything else. Thanks for stopping in and commenting J.

Maybe, it's because Ripoff was informing the public about their rights and information regarding mugshots/public information.

I think it's intersting that a click of button for Webmaster URL Removal Request got thier site disrupted..But the mugshot site continue their rampage and no matter how many requests for specific removal, those pages still show up...

He actually didn't use any of the graphics in my blog post in his SEO presentation. I didn't have a chance to screen cap any of his slides, and really didn't want to use them without his permission :)

Keith, thanks for your great write up!

I'd just quickly like to clarify where our product fits into the whole picture -

Unlike some other surgical link building methods, The HOTH is safe to use on new sites, etc. The reason is because we model the authoritative link -> multi site syndication model. In other words, all of the links we build *make sense* to the search engines and we do see new sites rank just by using our product.

It would therefore be easy/convenient to conclude that its the only thing you need, for really solid, sustained rankings. However, as I mentioned in the webinar, this isn't the smartest approach.

Although you do get authority, relevance and popularity from a tool like ours, its not a replacement for the foundational authority of links like blogrolls from friendly industry blogs. Likewise, although our links provide relevance through relevant content and anchor texts, they are not coming from root-domains that are relevant to your niche. Therefore, its smart to supplement what we do with the activities I suggest in the "Friends, Family & Fools" and "Online Activity" portions of the link building pyramid (the bottom & middle levels).

We have seen some people rank for over a year just using our tool, but it would be arrogant for me to say that everyone can achieve the same thing. Using the tool as part of a well rounded strategy (i.e. "The New Link Building Pyramid") is a much more consistent way to achieve rankings, and much more stable for keeping them.

Hope that helps anybody who read the above write up :)

While I basically agree with the vast majority of your sarcastic rant, I don't agree that sites are likely to be banned for purchasing plus one's.

Maybe a huge influx of plus one's COMBINED with other spammy / black hat behavior will get a site banned, but it'd be way too easy to kill your competition if a site could get banned just from having a paid plusones. I mean, if I could take out my top 5 competitors for ~$20 per site ... well, I'm not saying I would do it, but I'm sure there are a lot of people who would.

Even if I know that buying links from authority sites work nice in Google still am not in favor of it ever. Through efficient SEO, ranking can be achieved then why to buy links which Google doesn't like.

Just like you am a fan of SEOMOZ team & few weeks back I read an article about testing on re-tweeting on Twitter & its impact on SERP there. So my view is SERP can be affected only by sharing of huge links by popular profiles on social media sites. And this will be applicable in Google Plus too.
